A little something extra.

I realise I may be out of step with some of my members when I say this, and this is really just my own opinion, but I do feel quite comfortable limiting some of my social interactions as we go through the whole Corona thing.  I’ve taken the opportunity to trim out some of the less positive people in my life, and do more of the things I enjoy.

It’s a little bit like having the opportunity to fine tune one’s life a little. Reducing the negative people in my life, and engaging in the things I enjoy has become something of a goal. Sadly, Sylvester is having a more difficult time of it, being so outgoing and social.

Sylvester, for example, throws enjoyable parties, though sometimes they really do get quite out of hand. On one evening last year he had a rather unusual night during which one of his friends decided they were intent on cornering me and plying me with drink, in the hopes that they might do unspeakable, but delightful things to my body.

“If you think you are going to get that in me,” I said to his friend, “you’re very much mistaken,” as he tried to press yet another drink on me.

“But, darling…” He oozed.

“Don’t ‘Darling’ me. If you think I’m swallowing your…” I was at a loss for words. “… your nonsense, then you must think I was born yesterday!”

I clung onto my appletini and sidled away. Goodness knows what these people want you to slide down your throat.

I suppose we all handle these things differently. My best advice is to use this period as a chance to refine things a little in your life. We can all come out of this ahead if we keep calm and use the time productively. What better time to remember the sage words of Men Without Hats –

“And we can dress real neat
From our hats to our feet
And surprise ’em with a victory cry”

Ivan Doroschuk, the song writer, has explained that “The Safety Dance” was a protest against bouncers prohibiting dancers from pogoing to 1980s new wave music in clubs when disco was dying and new wave was up and coming. Well, I’ll run with that and say that its about us making rules for ourselves, not listening to some buffoon in Washington. When you have a moron for president, it’s nice to be a reactionary.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still meeting a limited group of friends. We’ve had some delightful small get togethers in the safety of my garden. I’m enjoying not being in a club with 600 other people, and still having fun. It comes down to being just a little careful.  I hope you’re exercising a little caution, too. This thing won’t last forever.
